Inflammation is the body’s attempt to get rid of toxins and is one of the body's ways of responding to damage, infection, injury, or irritants. Inflammation may be internal or external. Most often it is accompanied by painful, itchy and red or swollen areas of the body.


Aromatherapy oils, apart from having anti-inflammatory properties, are also analgesic and have cooling and soothing effects. Also excellent for muscle toning (apart from muscle aches). The oils have an immediate effect on voluntary muscles (those near the surface of the body), and will ease pain and relax muscles especially when pain is due to overexertion. It is their analgesic effect which is valuable in the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism, and other related illnesses.


Suggested essential oils: Black pepper, chamomile (German), clove, eucalyptus, rosemary, yarrow, blue tansy, birch, turmeric, ginger root.
