Botanical Name: Juniperus communis L.

Main Constituents:

a-Pinene: 39.86%

Plant Part: Berries

Origin: Bulgaria

Processing Method: Steam Distilled

Description / Color / Consistency: A thin, colorless to pale yellow liquid.

Aromatic Summary / Note / Strength of Aroma: A middle note with a medium aroma, Juniper Berry has a fresh, rich, balsamic scent reminiscent of pine needles.

Blends With: Clary Sage, Sandalwood, Bergamot, Geranium, Marjoram, Rosemary, Chamomile and Eucalyptus.

Product Abstract: A juniper berry is the female seed cone produced by the various species of junipers. It is not a true berry but a cone with unusually fleshy and merged scales, which give it a berry-like appearance. The berries are green when young, and mature to a purple-black color over about 18 months. The berries are plucked from the branches of the plant once a year, and dried and ground before distillation. Juniper was used in the 19th century in French hospitals as an airborne disinfectant to combat smallpox by burning it along with rosemary and thyme. It was also used by the Native American Indians during spritual rituals and meditation.  Juniper essential oil aids in detoxifying the circulatory, urinary systems, and imbalances of the skin.

Cautions: Dilute before use; for external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals; a skin test is recommended prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.
