Diuretic (Fluid Retention)
DIURETIC (fluid retention)
A diuretic increases the flow of urine, and is used to treat conditions where water is retained in the body. Edema is swelling of the body tissues caused by fluid retention and may be generalized over the whole body or affect only local areas—usually the ankles or belly. The following may be a few causes of edema:
- Sluggish circulation due to heart inefficiency.
- Blockages in veins.
- Damage to capillary blood vessels (bruising or scalding).
- Fluid not being efficiently excreted by the kidneys.
- Too much salt retained in the body.
It is advisable to eliminate salt from the diet, reduce weight, exercise, and follow a diet of natural foods with plenty of fresh vegetables/salads, and fruit. Cutting out junk, refined, and processed foods is necessary, as these contribute to the condition.
Suggested essential oils: Cedarwood, cypress, fennel, geranium, juniper, lemon, grapefruit, lime.
