Grains Aren't the Bad Guy

We've all heard it before. You're gluten free, your mom is gluten free, even your dog is gluten free. Strangely we have all become gluten intolerant but don't really know why and yet over the years more and more people are having to turn from their gluten-eating ways. Most people like to wave their fists and blame the GMOs but, sadly, that is not the reason, and I say "sadly" because the real reason will make you sick to your stomach, Literally.

Have you ever had that gluten free friend tell you about all the bread and pastries they ate  during their trip to Europe that one time? Well there's a reason why everyone who travels to Europe are then magically cured...until they return the the United States again. Many Europeans farmers grow and harvest their wheat differently to us. what do I mean by that?

Get ready for the truth behind our wheat intolerance.

Here in America, wheat farmers will drench their wheat fields with Roundup right before they harvest their wheat in order to allow for an easier and bigger harvest.

Yes, the reason you get sick from eating that breadroll is because it contains a substance that is poisonous to your system.  Glyphosates, also know as Roundup, purpose is to not only act as an herbicide but a desiccant during harvest which means the wheat we are eating is getting drenched in Roundup over and over again as it is used for multiple purposes in the wheat growing/harvesting protocols. You may have heard all of this before but it really is a much bigger issue than we realize. Yes, we have been using glyphosate for decades but according to this paper published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, the use of glyphosate-based herbicides has increased 100 fold in the past 40 years and the reason farmers are using it more is because their crops are becoming resistant to it.

And it gets worse.

Due to the wheat and weed resistance to glyphosate, (the plants are adapting to the herbicide to survive) other ingredients are now added to Roundup that are proving to be more toxic to our bodies than the glyphosate originally was. According to THIS research, an ingredient  called POE-15 "clearly appears to be the most toxic principle against human cells." It continues to say that it  (the POE-15) begins to effect cellular respiration and membrane integrity at 1 and 3 ppm (parts per million), which is a realistic environmental dose that we expose ourselves to when eating wheat. All in all, POE-15 induces necrosis (cell death) when cells are exposed to it. Funnily enough, if you read the abstract of the research that I linked to, the author non-nonchalantly mentions glyphosate to be an endocrine disruptor almost as if it's just a universally understood concept in the world of science.

So then why does this matter to you? Have you ever suffered from:

  • Sleep disorders.
  • Developmental problems.
  • Weaker immune system.
  • Reproduction problems, including infertility.
  • Depression.
  • Diabetes.
  • Obesity.
  • Heart disease.
  • PMS.
  • Menstural cramping.
  • Low or high thyroid.
  • Basically anything that involves hormones.

This could, and most likely, be contributed to ingesting Roundup. Cereals, breads, pastas, sauces and almost everything you see in a grocery store all contain some form of wheat in it.

So why is nothing being done about this? Because the herbicide industry claims that glyphosate is "minimally toxic" to humans although scientists are insisting over and over again that these claims need to be reviewed and altered for the publics' health. Clearly, as shown above, the increase of Roundup use on wheat is perfectly congruent with the increase in celiac incidences which scientists are now linking to an upset and damaged microbiome (gut bacteria). As mentioned in this study, celiacs disease is strongly being correlated to gut imbalances which is being imbalanced by glyphosate and the surfactants added to it.

Basically put, Roundup is detrimental to gut bacterial health which is detrimental to YOUR HEALTH. It is a literal poison with long term consequeces.

(Fun side note, malt barley, grown for making beer, as well as peas and lentils are not accepted in the market place if it's been sprayed by preharvest Roundup, according to wheat farmer, Keith Lewis.)

So what does this mean to us and our future with grains? It's simple. Cut out the bad wheats and consume only the good ones once your gut is healed and able to do this. Remember, if you have been poisoning your gut bacteria with toxic wheat for years, it's going to take some time for it to heal and repair again. If you find your body is in need of repair you will have to cut out all grains for a time being. When you are ready to test the waters with grains again then you'll want to try these ORGANIC grains first. And if they'be been sprouted then even better:

  • Amaranth
  • Quinoa
  • Millet
  • Oat Groats
  • Einkorn (a personal favorite)

These grains have incredible nutritional profiles and are easily digested when prepared properly.

We will talk more about these grains and seeds in a later post but for now know that if you are experiencing any health issues it could most likely be attributed to your wheat intake.

To your health and healing,

Juanique Roney
